Schiffshebewerk Niederfinow

The Niederfinow ship-lifts are a unique landmark of our region and a technical monument that is rare in the world. Since 1935, the old Niederfinow ship lift has been lifting cargo ships, sports boats, pleasure boats and even paddle boats 36 meters into the air every day of the year. Only eight electric motors are required to elevate and descent the 5000-ton trough thanks to sophisticated engineering. Right next to it, the new ship lift with a 115 m long water trench will start regular service in 2022. More than 250,000 visitors come to the quiet little town on the edge of the Oderbruch every year to witness what is one of the largest boat  elevator in the world several times a day.
